Des Moines, IA – August 28, 2024 – The Des Moines Water Works Park Foundation announced today the appointment of Chris A. Burch as Executive Director.

In his new role, Burch will lead Water Works Park Foundation’s strategic vision, oversee daily operations, and drive initiatives that align with the Foundation’s mission to integrate education, conservation, recreation, and health to park users. He will work closely with the Board of Directors, volunteers, vendors, and community partners to further impact and ensure sustainable growth.

“We are very excited to welcome Chris to the Water Works Park Foundation,” said Crystal Franke, Board President. “He brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in community engagement that will be instrumental in guiding the organization through its next phase of growth and innovation. We are confident that his vision and experience will lead the Water Works Park Foundation to new heights.”

Burch previously served as Director of Operations at the Principal Charity Classic, where he advanced the tournament’s mission toward achieving GEO sustainability. Prior to that Burch was the Director of the IMT Des Moines Marathon for 17 years.

“I am honored to join the Water Works Park Foundation at such a pivotal time,” Burch said. “I look forward to learning and building on the strong foundation already in place and to explore new opportunities for growth and impact within the park for everyone to enjoy.”

Burch assumes the role effective August 28, succeeding founding Executive Director Sam Carrell, who will remain engaged as a consultant for several Park Foundation initiatives.

“I have known and worked with Chris (Burch) for years, and I’m very happy to know he’ll be here to continue the work we’ve done over the past several years,” Carrell said.
