The New Horizons Program started in 1991 at the Eastman School of Music in New York with an inclusive philosophy on which to base music-making activities for adults of all ages. The Des Moines chapter began in 2004 at Rieman Music and has evolved into a full concert band of dedicated and enthusiastic adults that enjoy getting together and making music. New Horizons International Music Association is the umbrella for providing resources and classes to the local chapters. NHIMA supports more than 250 bands, orchestras, and choirs with about 10,000 musicians in 6 countries.
